College Football

Here's a picture of DS and I after his football game on Saturday! Okay, I must explain that when hubby and I went to Steve and Barry's and bought almost everything in sight that said, "Buffalo State" on it that they had very little selection in size Small and Medium, which is what I take. So, I ended up getting a Large and I have to say after seeing the picture it really put about 20 pounds on my frame. Really, I'm not that heavy....I just look like I am with that shirt on. Really!

Any way, here's the pic and it was a windy day, very windy. Good old Buffalo, NY. It's the other windy city.

I also burnt my face to a crisp! Yuck! I'm really careful about the sun. My foundation has an SPF of 20, guess it wasn't enough. My left ear got fried also. I had my hair pulled up during the game, because it was so windy, so my left ear was exposed. My head hurt for a few days whenever I brushed my hair, because of the burn. I really hate getting sun burned.

Dear hubby wanted to get a picture of Bryce in his helmet, so we have one of those, too. Here it is.....

When hubby told him to put his helmet on to get a picture, DS said, "Oh, come on! I'll look stupid!" I told him I saw lots of kids getting their pictures taken by their parents. DS said, "Yeah, I know, they're all freshman AND they're acting like freshmen getting their pictures taken all over the place." I laughed and said, "Well, you'll only be a freshman once." So, the helmet went on and we snapped the picture.

Since it was Homecoming/Family Weekend, we took DS out to eat. We went to a place called Mississippi Mudd's. They are supposed to have the best hamburgers in all of Buffalo. It was okay, but I feel sorry for Buffalo if that was the best burger they have to offer. The scenery was very pretty as we were sitting on top of the roof (they have picnic tables up there) and we could see the Niagara River. It was pretty! We could see the town of Niagara Falls and way off in the distance, we could see Canada. Yeah, it was very pretty!

We went down to the river and sat on a bench and talked for awhile. It was so nice! The boy already had stories about his roommates, which he doesn't see very often, because he's mostly only in the room to sleep. Classes, studying, football practice and football meetings take up most of his waking hours. He likes it like that.

I guess the dorm he's staying in is pretty wild at times. He says he's happy he doesn't have to go hang out there until it's time to go to bed. He said he wondered where some of his dorm mates were raised, like maybe in a barn? I found this funny, as he wasn't the neatest kid on the planet when he lived at home with us. One nice thing is that he's met a Christian boy, who is older than he is (he also plays football), and he's been 'hanging' out with him a lot. He's kind of teaching DS the ropes, so to speak, about college and football.

He told us that he missed us a lot! Aww, it melted my heart when he said that. I wanted to pack him up and take him home right then and there, but NO, I didn't! I refrained!

I asked him how he felt about college now that he had been attending close to 5 weeks of school. He told me it was okay, but it was really hard to make friends. "Everyone is in survival mode right now, just taking care of themselves." I asked him if he was in 'survival mode.' He had to admit that he was. He said it took a lot of energy to just figure out what you were supposed to be doing, when you were supposed to be doing it and how you were supposed to be doing it. Now, I'm not sure I know what 'it' is, but he seemed to know, so I didn't ask.

All and all he seems very adapted to his new life. He's already figured out the church thing. He knows where, when and how. I guess that education we're paying for must be worth it if he figured that one out.

Very nice pics! I can't get over how much your DS looks like you..Is DH a blond too?

Actually, DH is gray and bald! But he used to be blond. I have highlights in my hair, so it makes it look a bit blonder than it actually is. I mostly do the highlights due to the gray appeared in two strips, one each right over my ears. I looked like a puppy dog. LOL!

I always thought DS was the spitting image of DH, but I know people always tell me that DS has my facial expressions (smile, frown, etc.)

Someday he'll appreciate that you and hubby insisted on those silly Frosh pics.
