I was recently having a cyber-conversation with a friend about housekeeping. I got thinking on it, and I have to admit that I'm obsessed.
There's only two things that absolutely must be done in my house in order for me to relax. I can't sit and read a book; I can't sit down and enjoy a movie on television; I can't do anything in the form of relaxing unless my bed is made AND the kitty litter box is clean.
Whew! Okay, you know my secret.
The laundry can pile up and it might niggle at me. The sink can fill up with dishes and it might bother me a little bit. But pleeeeez, let me make my bed and clean the kitty box; then I'm good for anything.
The minute I get out of bed for the morning, I'm sleepy eyed and not really thinking very well, but I pop out of bed and make it. My next mission is to get to the kitty box. There! My day has begun on a positive note.
Call me strange (or even obsessed), the house can become a disaster, but if those two chores are done, I can sigh with relief and go enjoy myself!

Wow! I didn't even know you had a cat.
I think we all have those things that must be done before we can relax, or in my case be creative. Now my bed doesn't matter, I can close the upstairs door and it's fine. No kitty, so I don't have to worry about that. But the room I am in must be in order or I can't rest. If I paint at the kitchen table then the kitchen must be clean, disehes washed and put away, floor swept, and nothing out on the counters. Living room, everything picked up floor swept, and all dusted. I guess it's just the "order"thing...I'm sure it comes from German side of the family :)
