Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!

On Sunday, after church, we are all heading out to brunch for Mother's Day and my parent's anniversary celebration. My parents have been married for 52 years. WOW! That's a long time, baby!

Then we usually travel back to my parents' house to watch The Anniversary CD. When my parents celebrated their 50th Anniversary, they didn't want anything too elaborate. They are a very, simple couple; and they just wanted to have their family together for the day. We had taken them out to a wonderful, very classy, and expensive restaurant, then we took them home and gave them small tokens of our love for them. You know, the '50th Anniversary' picture frame with a picture of their wedding picture, then a picture of the loving parents at the present time set on the opposite side of the frame. Awww! It was very nice!

But we also put together a video of hundred of pictures that click from frame to frame with some of my parents' favorite music. The pictures exhibit some really silly moments, but they bring to mind some really serious moments also. For example, there was a picture of my brother with a pair of underwear (whitey tighties, to be exact) on his head. A few frames later is a picture of him all decked out with his date for the prom. While watching The Anniversary CD, there are moments of hilarious laughing; and there are moments of quiet resolve and maybe a tear or two.

Of course, you know, my peanut (who isn't a peanut anymore) was the most popular grandchild in the video. He has so many pictures in that video that tomorrow I will probably want to shed a tear or two myself AND I'm not given to shedding tears too easily. I just miss him so much, but he'll be home on Wednesday; and all will be right in my world.

I want you to know that I did not put all those pictures of my son in the video. My sister-in-law and my brother are the ones who picked out all the pictures. My brother said his wife kept throwing pictures of Bryce at him and saying, "You MUST add this picture too! It's soooo cute." Of course, I know how cute he was, so I certainly didn't mind.

I will take credit for the picture taking. When my son was little, we lived in California; and I used to send hundreds of pictures of him to his grandparents. On my side of the family, he was the first grandchild. He was pretty special, and hardly anyone got to see him as a baby.

But back to my parents anniversary. My parents have had a lot living in those 52 years. They gave birth to three children, two boys and one girl (that's me). We never really had a lot while I was growing up, but I never felt 'poor.' Okay, now we sound like the Waltons minus about 4 children, but I did have a good childhood.

I am thankful for my parents' commitment and resolve to bring us up in a loving atmosphere. I am truly blessed!

Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!
