Things Change

When my son went to college, I had to say there were things on my 'to do' list that I thought I would find more time for. Well, yes, I do have more time to do those things, but I 've noticed some bigger changes in my life since he's left.

Laundry - I used to do about 2 - 3 loads of laundry per day. Now I'm doing about 2 - 3 loads of laundry per week. I know most of you are thinking that the boy must have changed his clothes waaaay too much, but really he wasn't too bad. See, the boy played a lot of athletics during his high school years, so.......there was a towel that was used in the morning for his shower and a towel that he took to school to use after his practice from whatever sporting event he had that day. Then there were his school clothes, then his practice or game clothes, too. So two sets of clothes and 2 towels per day, well, it adds up.

Cooking - I really have to get used to not having a horse eating at the table every night. I mean, the boy didn't have the manners of a horse at the dinner table (I wouldn't have allowed it), but he ate the quantity of food that a horse would. LOL! Or at least, I think he did, because my food portions have been cut in half and I still have leftovers. Hubby and I don't do well with leftovers, so I try to not cook too much, which I'm finding difficult at this point.

Evening hours - Every evening, hubby and I looked forward to hearing about the boy's day. He'd tell us how school was going, how practice was going, the friends he talked to, etc. Now, every evening I ask hubby, "How was your day?" and his response is "Work is work." He doesn't like to talk about work when he gets home for the day. So.....we've started talking more about politics (there's a lot to talk about there), the weather, plans for the house and so on. Evening hours have become different, but very interesting, too.

Kitchen Floor - I used to sweep the kitchen floor (as it is the entryway to our house) at least 2 times per day. I've found that once every other day works now. Now, the boy always removed his shoes upon entering the house, but for some reason, the kitchen floor just doesn't accumulate too much dirt since he's gone to college.

Bathroom - The bathroom is also seeing considerably less traffic so I'm finding that the daily wipe up isn't always necessary.

All in all, life has changed. I miss my boy, but I'm finding more time to do more things everyday. I finished a crocheting project that became a birthday gift to a dear friend of mine. I'm putting the finishing touches on a crocheted shell top for myself. I've read my Bible more, I've made enough spaghetti sauce from the tomatoes from our garden to feed an army, I've even made a list of all the books I want to read.

Hmmmm, I hope you all realize that this post is mostly about convincing myself that life can change, but change isn't always bad.

Laundry--yeah, I know what you mean. My cousin got married and his mother lost 3 loads a day.

I'm working on a laundry blog. It should be up tomorrow.

I wonder what people do with leftovers? Mine seem to gather mold and get fed to the dog.

I don't own a dog! So, unfortunately, my leftovers end up in the garbage can or the compost pile! LOL!

We have 5 loads of laundry a week nowdays..When I was doing cloth dipes we had more. My kids wear everything twice as does my dh...unless of course they spilled something or were outside in the heat all day.

We eat all our leftovers the following day. I usually cook every other day so I need to make enough for seconds and left overs.

Of course our chickens occasionally get some leftovers if they are not eaten by us. Who needs a dog when you have chickens. lol

I always wonder what it is going to feel like having an empty nest..so I appreciate reading what other mothers go through day to day. Thanks for blogging about it!

My in laws had chickens. I can remember MIL saying, "Nobody wants to eat this???? Then throw it in the chicken bucket." LOL!

But seeing that at one time she had 10 children in the house, I don't think she said that much until later years when there were fewer.

I'm happy to blog about the 'empty nest', but I think I may be boring people as my life is not too exciting as of late. So, thanks for reading!
