Well, usually the boy comes out of his room with an old movie and says, "Let's watch this movie." Or the boy comes out of his room with a deck of cards and says, "Let's play pitch." Or the boy comes out of his room......
He has a lot of great ideas for free entertainment and we always have a lot of fun doing whatever the boy suggests.
Ace & King of Clubs
One of our all time favorite card games is to shuffle the cards, deal one card to each player. The players then place the card (without looking at it) on their forehead so everyone else at the table can see the card except the player who drew the card. Then each player gets to bet on their card being the highest card even though they have no idea just what that card is.
Of course everyone looks and feels like a complete goose, because you're holding this card for dear life onto your forehead and trying to place poker chips or pennies (or whatever you're betting with) into the center pot.
It's always hilarious when someone with a 3-card firmly placed upon their forehead is betting like crazy, and you're trying to keep your own card in place and point to their card and laugh, laugh, laugh at them because they only have a 3. But then when the round ends, with great disappointment you notice that you bet all your pennies and you only had a duce.
Then there's the nights when we get out all the really, really old picture albums to leaf through. You know, the picture albums from the 80's where mom's hair was 'big hair' and dad had a bushy, bushy beard that looked like Grizzly Adams. The picture albums where the boy had hair that was long enough to realize that he has beautiful, soft blond curls. The picture albums that showed Grandma when she dyed her hair jet black. Yeah, those picture albums....they are always good for a laugh or two.

Then there's the nights when the TV is turned down low (for some reason our TV is always on) and we all sit around and tell stories. Remember how the boy used to chase the cat with the water hose. Or remember how dad used to work in a pizza shop and he called everyone he didn't like 'a super supreme slimo' or remember that neighbor we knew that used to sit on their porch and talk to 'Harry.' No one could see Harry, but that didn't stop him. In fact, after awhile everyone else on the porch was talking to Harry too.
The boy leaves on Sunday to return to college, so our family nights will be limited until May when he returns for the summer.
But, oh, how I love family nights!
