This morning I had a burst of energy, well, maybe more like I told myself that I wanted to fully take of advantage of the day. So, I scrubbed a large portion of my kitchen walls and ceiling with my homemade 409 formula. This little magic in a bottle is very inexpensive. Here's the recipe:
Take your old 409 spray bottle and fill 2/3 full of warm water. Add a few drops of liquid dish soap. Add a glug or two of ammonia (about 2 tablespoons), then gently swish around in the spray bottle Voila!
This is so inexpensive and it works great for cleaning just about anything. The reason it works so well in my kitchen is because the ammonia cuts grease very effectively.
Another little trick that I do is add vinegar to my clothes in my dispenser for fabric softener. Vinegar is a natural softener in the laundry department and it makes the clothes smell fresh without a lot of perfume type odors. Some of the perfume they use in fabric softener just smells 'too much' for me. So, I use the vinegar instead. I buy it at the Dollar store for 75 cents per quart which is much cheaper than fabric softener.
I bought 4 dryer balls at the local Kinney's pharmacy and use those in the dryer. My clothes never have static cling. They cost about $10.00 for 2 of them, but I use four because some of the loads of laundry I do are quite large. I found 4 to be more effective. The verdict is still out on these little dryer balls, because I've been using them for several months and they seem to be in the same condition that they were when I bought them. I'll see how long they last, then decide if they are a money saver. (Oh, yeah, these are store bought, but I just had to include them in this post since I was talking about laundry).

I will try this. My DH is not crazy over the vinegar smell..maybe he'll like ammonia. He-he.At the moment I am just using VERY hot pure water to clean everything. My husband has replaced the showers and faucets with filter devices so we will have pure water. It has worked out very good and gets the job down..even our hair feels different. Who knew..
I use to have washing machine balls that would clean instead of soap..I got them off HSN..I never heard of drying balls though, I'll have to look into that. Thanks for the heads up!
I know what your dh means. Vinegar (although I use it a lot) kind of makes me choke. Whereas, ammonia cleans my nasal passages out real good! LOL!
Do you buy your ammonia at walmart? Wonder if the dollar store has it.
I have switched over to simply green and really love that it is non-toxic.
I buy it at Walmart presently. I can't even remember what the price is, but I know the jug lasts a good long while, because a little dab will do ya!
