My son left yesterday to go to college about 2 hours away. Everyone keeps saying that I'm doing really well. The reason they say I'm doing well is because I'm not sobbing my day away! I'm just not like that, so I probably won't publicly sob out there for everyone to see. Truthfully, I find the shower a good place to shed multiple tears.
He seems to be doing fine. He called several times yesterday with questions on this and that. I haven't heard from him today, so I'm thinking he's either extremely busy or got all his questions answered (for now). LOL!
I know that the major goal that we have as parents is to set our kids up to be able to lead a productive and profitable life. Well......I guess we just took a huge step in that direction. He's going to be studying environmental sciences. He's really not a 'sit at a desk' kind of guy. Who knows if that will change over the 4 years of attending university.
Everyone has told me that I have to make a major life change now. One of the reasons that people say this to me is because 'the boy' played multiple sports. Hubby and I have dragged ourselves to 3 - 5 sporting events per week, year-round for over 10 years. Only counting the scholastic sports he played in high school, we went to over 200 sporting events through his years of high school. So, yeah, I guess it looks like hubby and I will have to make a major life change. But the only thing that keeps running through my mind is "I now have time to do all those projects that I've put off for years." I have a lot of closets in my house that need attention. I have a couple of crawl spaces and a large attic that need straightening. I have a garage, a basement, and an upstairs 'junk room' (kind of like peoples' junk drawers, but mine is a whole room) that could use hours of labor to ship out a lot of crud that we've gathered through the years.
I have multiple 1/2 finished knitting and crocheting projects to attend to. I want to learn to quilt. I want to start reading again. Yeah, I have a lot of time on my hands.
